NC FIELD is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that works with migrant and seasonal farmworker youth and families utilizing grassroots organizing principles to teach leadership, promote education and facilitate opportunities.
NC FIELD’s mission is to forge relationships that fill service gaps in the farmworker community, while increasing awareness of the plight of the farmworker.
We do this through:
- Referring farmworkers to needed services
- Conducting popular education programs
- Opening opportunities to farmworker youth
- Participating in exhibitions, conferences and forums to address issues that affect the farmworker community
Vision
NC FIELD’s vision is to improve the quality of life for farmworkers by increasing dignity and respect throughout the community.
Values
Education as the factor that empowers people to overcome social inequalities;
Leadership not only within the organization, but also in the community we serve;
Dignity as a non-negotiable facet of humanity;
Community strength as integral to facing individual challenges.
EDUCATION
Learning focuses on the skills necessary to build resilience, self-esteem, and facilitate the change the farmworker community wants to see. Youth and inter-generational organizing leads nearly all learning experiences at NC FIELD.
LEADERSHIP
We are dedicated to meeting the needs identified by farmworkers and their children in eastern North Carolina. Farmworkers are active on the board of directors, committees, and on projects.
DIGNITY
We aim to end child labor in agriculture through creating greater public awareness, by providing young workers educational support and creating alternative sources of income for them. Other NC FIELD programs such as the Farmworker Emergency Fund and Food Bank help community members in moments of difficulty. Our subsistence agricultural projects and community education efforts aim to make our community more self-determining. Additionally, through our collaborations we are able to provide safe and healthy spaces for unaccompanied youth and victims of domestic violence.
