ABOUT ALINA ZUNIGA
Alina Zuniga comes from a migrant family who frequently moved from state to state throughout her childhood. Her family would travel to Florida to pick oranges, then move to North Carolina to harvest sweet potatoes and tobacco, and later to Michigan for apple picking.
When Alina was around 13 years old, her family made a pivotal decision to settle in Kyle, TX. This marked a significant change for Alina, as it was the first time her family put down roots in one place. The stability of living in Kyle allowed her to focus on her education and provided a more consistent environment after years of constant relocation. Alina graduated from Jack C. Hays High School in 2001 at the age of 19, with the hope of one day working in a profession where she could help families just like hers. In May 2017, Alina began working with East Coast Migrant Head Start as a Family Service Specialist. In this role, she assisted migrant families by enrolling their children and providing resources, driven by her own experiences and understanding of the challenges faced by migrant children. Her passion for helping others and making a difference was a key motivation in her work. In August 2020, Alina joined Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) as a Case Investigator. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she assessed families across the county, providing crucial information on quarantine protocols, COVID-19 guidelines, and vaccination details, and helping families navigate the complexities of the pandemic. In 2024 Alina Zuniga accepted the Application Assistant Specialist position with the NC Field Sembrando Salud Program Alina is passionate about assisting farmworkers and low-resource families because she believes that everyone deserves access to the resources and support needed to thrive. By helping with application assistance, she hopes to bridge the gap between these communities and the services that can improve their quality of life, empowering them to secure a more stable and prosperous future. |
