North Carolina Focus on Increasing Education, Leadership & Dignity, or NC FIELD, was founded in 2009 when a group of community members and outreach professionals collectively reached the crossroads of advocacy and activism. NC FIELD was born of the need to take the extra step -- one that will lead to indelible change in the agricultural communities of eastern North Carolina. Organizing began in 2009; with 501(c)3 non-profit status obtained in 2012.
Located in Kinston, Lenoir County, NC FIELD has created a model for training farmworkers and farmworker youth to have a voice in the debates about issues that directly impact their lives and their families’ livelihoods.
NC FIELD’s core programs include capacity building as a partner to the farmworker community; health access & equity programs; food distribution as a NC Food Bank partner with Our Latinx Neighbors; popular education projects that empower farmworkers to resist dangerous heat, pay-gouging, and criminal behaviors of labor contractors; and opportunities to learn how to utilize their agricultural knowledge base to generate income.
